Steve Grand Lido Negril
Mini Review of 9/2002 Trip posted July 08, 2002 01:41 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- While we were at Grand Lido Negril ,the first night they had the fresh flower petals everywhere and a few minutes after arrival a white gloved waiter arrived and served us hors d'ourvres, chocolate truffles and champagne. Every evening after that we arrived back at our room to find a different work of towel and flower art" Some of the extra touches we also found special include Champagne Mimosas-generally served with breakfast however my wife enjoyed them throughout the day. ( for those who don't know this is a mixture of Champagne and fresh orange juice and it's a great way to start the day! ) Being able to have a fine hot meal served to our room at 3:45 a.m. ( I don't sleep much while in Paradise...) One afternoon we were treated to a white-glove service, pic-nik table lunch in the middle of the beautiful tropical hidden gardens. My wife really enjoyed the spa and I really enjoyed the fitness center and huge selection of water sports. The sunset cruise alone would make a nice vacation for many people. They have a live band and they serve Champagne & hors d'ourvres and also fresh fruit and tropical drinks.(the sunset is spectacular) The three outdoor bars on property that all served drinks and food 24 hours... All the beachfront hammocks...All the oceanfront gazebos... the diverse coastline... the lush fullness of all the gardens and foliage... the vast diversity of the property ( I really liked the natural "aquariums" that are formed by the coral formations at the far end of the coastline.) For those who don't know: the oceanfront at Grand Lido Negril starts with beautiful natural cliffs about 15 to 20 feet high that taper down to where the "aquariums" are. Then there is a pristine C/O section of beach which is followed by more "aquariums". All along this section there are three massage gazebos and a wedding gazebo. THEN the beach starts !!! it begins right under the oceanfront pool and jacuzzi main deck and goes on for miles...................................................! The staff, the staff, the staff, the staff... I have been to many resorts in Jamaica and the staff has ranged from good to amazing- but none have I found to be as top- notch as Grand Lido Negril. Although my wife has complete respect for the plight of the beach vendors, she really appreciated that there are no vendors at the "fence" as there is at almost every other resort in Jamaica. From what I understand the only resort in Jamaica to ever get a higher rating than GLN is BRP and although I have never been, from what I have seen in photos BRP definately has fancier rooms and decor. I much prefer the Lido style resorts ( two stories maximum )and it is obvious that the beach and grounds are much more beautiful and larger at GLN than they are at BRP. I have stayed in some top- notch rooms in Phoenix, in Las Vegas... even here in Montreal but for me the casual elegance of Grand Lido Negril just "FEELS" like Jamaica. |
