Beaches Royal Plantation Comments by RLMargolis 7/2001

The food at the restaurants was excellent.  On two different occasions, there was something on the French menu that my husband could not eat.  He spoke to the cook ahead of time, and the cook agreed to make him a steak instead, in one instance, and gave him a different appetizer, in another instance.  I liked our room very much.  It was always kept spotless, and I thought the decor was attractive.  The room was not overly large, but large enough, nicely furnished, and it had a nice large television and a vcr.  All of the rooms are suites, so there was a separate area with a table for eating or sitting and looking out at the ocean.  Some rooms had balconies, but ours did not.  The room had a well-stocked refrigerator with champagne, sodas, juices, bottled water, and sparkling soda.  There were also four large bottles of hard liquor in the room - all premium brands (Johnny Walker Black, Absolute, gin, and something else).  The refrigerator was restocked daily, and there was no extra charge for the in-room drinks and liquor.  There was daily turn-down service, and when they turned down the bed they also straightened up the room again and, again, left fresh towels.  We ate breakfast in our room on several occasions, because my husband played golf several mornings, and we wanted to eat together before he left.

When we first arrived, the place seemed fully occupied; however, during the last couple of days of our stay, there appeared to be many vacancies, and we sometimes practically had the beach to ourselves.  The prime minister of
Jamaica was there during our stay.  He graciously allowed us to take a picture with him.  The nighttime entertainment included singers, piano player, band, crab races, a dance troupe doing Jamaican dances and singing, a juggler/fire eater, etc.  For the most part, the entertainment was very low key and quiet - this is not the place for someone looking for loud music and a more faced-past type of lively entertainment.  There are exchange privileges with the other Sandals/Beaches resorts.  There were many honeymooners when we were there.  This suprised me.  These younger people also loved the resort.  A few couples told me that they took advantage of the exchange privileges and ate at one of the other resorts and would never do it again.  They felt that the facility and food at Royal Plantation was far superior to the others.  I cannot comment on this because my husband and I always ate on premises.  I can say, however, that we have been to many different resorts (not in Jamaica) and this was by far the best in terms of food and service.

My husband was listening to the radio on the way to work yesterday, and he happened to hit a station that was discussing vacations.  A young man called in stating that he was planning on spending his week-long honeymoon in
Jamaica at Beaches Royal Plantation, and he asked the commentators' opinion. One of the commentators of the show stated that he/she (not certain if it was a man or woman) stayed at Beaches Royal Plantation in February and felt it was the best place in Jamaica.  The place was raved about.  I also rave about the place - it was great!

I hope this answers your questions.
